Curated by Bassist Liz Draper (feat. Circuit City)

NO COVER 7:00pm Show

Liz Draper’s October residency takes a left turn into Monday territory with Circuit City, an all-star cast featuring Alan Sparhawk and Jeremy Ylvisaker on electric guitars, Liz Draper on electric bass, and Davu Seru on the drums. Impenetrable grooves and sonic explorations. Not to be missed.

Bassist Liz Draper has played with everyone from Sub Pop's Grammy-nominated slowcore band Low to the Balkan folk group Orkestar Bez Ime, Righteous Babe artist Pieta Brown, Grammy Award-winning Okee Dokee Brothers, and Smithsonian recording artist folk troubadour Charlie Parr. Liz grew up playing jazz and has a degree in classical bass performance. Her improvising led her to Brooklyn's SIM (School for Improvised Music 2003). Liz is a 2019 Giant Steps Fellow (San Francisco). She is a 2021 American Composers Forum awardee for her solo work which can be described as "classicaldoomfolkjazz."  Liz is currently touring with two-time Grammy-nominated songwriter Iris Dement.

Davu Seru is gaining an international reputation as a free jazz drummer. He has worked with numerous improvising musicians including Milo Fine, Andrew Lafkas, Jaron Childs, Charles Gillett, Dean Magraw, Jack Wright, Paul Metzger, Elliot Fine, Evan Parker, Rafael Toral, Wendy Ultan, Fred Lonberg-Holm, Stefan Kac, Taylor Ho Bynum, Jim Baker, Robbie Lynn Hunsinger, David Boykin, Dean Granros, Nicole Mitchell, and Harrison Bankhead. Davu appears on the record labels Insides Music, Shih Shih Wu Ai, Emanem, Locust, Roaratorio and Clean Feed. For more information, visit www.davuseru.com.

Alan Sparhawk is from Duluth and is best known for being in the band Low. He has horns—not the ones that are brass and make music. The pointy ones that come out of your head.

Jeremy Ylvisaker is a multi-instrumentalist, composer, producer, teacher, and visual artist who has worked with a wide variety of popular and underground art makers. His music and images are influenced by decades of these disparate, fun, and sometimes challenging collaborations. Some of the aforementioned artists include Bon Iver, Jenny Lewis, Bruce Hornsby, John Prine, Grace Potter, Andrew Bird, Sandra Bernhard, Damo Suzuki (Can), Anais Mitchell (Hadestown), Gaelynn Lea (Macbeth on Broadway), Prince’s New Power Generation members (in tribute after Prince passed), Mouse on Mars, Aida Shahghasemi, Swamp Dogg, Shahzad Ismaily, Eyedea, Suki Waterhouse, and the Merce Cunningham Dance Company. Ylvisaker has played in venues such as the Sydney Opera House and Carnegie Hall and on television programs such as Late Night with David Letterman and Austin City Limits. His music is also in films such as Reframed: Found Film Remembered (Walker permanent collection) and Wet House. He has released three records as a solo artist and several records as a member of the group Alpha Consumer.
