Early Evening Jazz: Joan Hutton / Tyler Lustek

Saxophonist Joan Hutton and pianist Tyler Lustek will perform two sets of melodic, inviting improvised music featuring jazz standards and their original compositions.

Canadian native Joan Hutton is a performer, composer, and educator residing in Minneapolis. Joan’s diverse interests have taken her from jazz, free improv, and funk to classical, chamber music, and pit orchestras. She performs with a classical chamber group, the Ancia Saxophone Quartet, which has recordings out on the Naxos and Albany labels. Joan has recorded two jazz albums featuring her original music, both on Shifting Paradigm Records: Take That Back (2022) and Splash (2024).

Tyler Lustek is a jazz pianist, composer, and educator from Eau Claire, WI. As a bandleader, Tyler fronts the Tyler Lustek Confluence, which recently recorded its poetry-centric debut album Shmehara: The Poet’s Journey Through War and Peace (slated for release in summer 2025). In addition to leading a competitive lessons studio, Tyler serves on the University of Wisconsin–Eau Claire jazz faculty, directs educational programs for the Clearwater Jazz & Art Festival, and offers jazz improvisation workshops and masterclasses to schools across the Chippewa Valley.
