Early Evening Jazz: SHiP Duo

NO COVER 4:30pm Show

Kansas City’s ShiP Duo is an innovative young pair of musicians flowing between free improvisation and jazz standards. Alto saxophone and vibraphone will meld their complementary voices to bring richness and warmth to Berlin. Henry Scamurra and Isaiah Petrie have been musical counterparts for years and have a singular sound you won't want to miss.

Twenty-one-year-old Henry Scamurra has been playing music for over half his life. While his career is only just beginning, he has already earned great success, recently participating at the Kennedy Center’s 2024 Betty Carter Jazz Ahead Program. Before graduating high school, he was recognized at a national level in the 2020 Jazz Band of America, and he has been writing and performing music regularly for the last 6 years. His music aims to inspire a wide array of emotion only seen in the togetherness of community.

Isaiah Petrie is a Kansas City–based vibraphonist looking to find new space for the instrument. With a background in gospel and classical music, he searches for new ways to inhabit Black American music while staying true to the music and his musical background. Isaiah has been a resident of the 2023 Kansas City Jazz Orchestra Riff generation cohort, and he is currently a resident of the Charlotte Street Foundation Artist Residency program. He has had the opportunity to play with many Kansas City artists, including Eddie Moore, Deandre Manning, Ryan Lee, Ernest Melton, and Marcus Lewis.
