Producer Medium Zach takes over the last Monday of every month at Berlin, inviting a collaborator to improvise and play. In March, he’ll perform with vocalist Lady Midnight.
Medium Zach, aka Zach Bagaason, is a producer, artist, and studio engineer based in Minneapolis. He is half of the seminal hip-hop duo Big Quarters along with his brother, Brandon Bagaason. Zach’s production, recording, and engineering work has graced releases from artists such as Mankwe Ndosi, I Self Devine, 26 Bats!, and Lady Midnight. Zach has released two solo projects: Beatstory (2016) and Bad by Myself (2021).
Lady Midnight is an experience. She is an ethereal vocalist and performance artist who draws upon her multidisciplinary background in visual art, dance and Afro-Indigenous roots to create work that timelessly reflects our collective lives. City Pages named Lady Midnight Best Twin Cities Vocalist of 2017 and named her highly anticipated debut album, Death Before Mourning, Best Album of 2020. Her sophomore album Pursuit & The Elusive was also named amongst best albums of 2023 by the Star Tribune, Racket, and The Current. Her VR companion film of the same name, which she co-wrote and starred in, has been presented at several international and local film festivals and won the award of Best VR short film in Bangkok and Barcelona. As Lady Midnight, she has performed at Red Rocks Park & Amphitheatre; scored a silent film for visual artist Kara Walker; been featured on Fortnite Radio and American Public Media Group’s Live From Here; and performed with internationally acclaimed artists Common, Moby, Andra Day, Atmosphere, Dessa, We Are King, Antibalas, Bomba Estéreo, and Juana Molina.
