The Leighton Tuenge Trio will celebrate the release of their album Like a Night in the Forest, which melds the complexity of contemporary jazz and the serenity of folk music.
Like a Night in the Forest is a personal love letter to the North Woods, from those who cherish the simple things in life. Trumpeter Leighton Tuenge, bassist Dan Carpel, and pianist Jeffrey Merrill started playing music together at the infamous Whitey's Tuesday night jams, where they developed a sense of camaraderie that they wanted to share with the world. In creating this album, they combine improvisation with classic folk songs and some of Leighton's original compositions, inspired by Minnesota's serene landscape. Like a Night in the Forest was recorded at Future Condo studios with John Miller and will be released on Sept. 19.
