NO COVER 7:00pm Show
Drum machines and synths, loops and stabs, Chris Wilbourn brings experimentation around groove and talks through the creative process.
Chris Wilbourn walks with each foot in different worlds. While successful with his hip-hop band Heiruspecs and widely known for their work in the Twin Cities rap scene, he started in high school as a DJ, rapper, and rave promoter as a part of the Family Werks crew. His love of house music and all things electronic took a back seat when Heiruspecs gained success and began touring heavily. While focused on hip-hop for years, Chris never lost his love of the Chicago house scene and was quietly making dance music on the side.
Now spending more time at home than on the road, Chris has found a deeper love of the electronic and synthesizer side of dance music, dabbling with techno and finding the intersection of organic and electronic to be a source of inspiration and a place for exploration. Chris hosted a KFAI radio show called Solid Foundations and released dance music under the name MRNC (My Real Name's Chris) during the COVID-19 pandemic. Growing from his continued love of hip-hop and dance music, Chris continues to make and release synth-forward dance music that centers the beat, and he plays with the elements of the music that has formed him.
