Old Feels is full of contrast. Catchy melodies, spacious ambience, exciting electronic grooves, and thoughtful folk songs, all strung together with improvisation. Familiar sounds, but you can’t quite put your finger on them. Nelson Devereaux opens.
Old Feels is the solo project of NYC-based guitarist and producer Asher Kurtz. As a performer, Asher has played with Lenny Pickett and the Saturday Night Live house band and performed original works at Lincoln Center in NYC; the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC; and the Barbican in London with Dawn Richard & Spencer Zahn. He has traveled with a diverse array of musical artists that includes Terri Lyne Carrington, Kevin Garrett, and Yuna.
The sound of Old Feels is a combination of folk songs, angular electronic beats, homemade cassette loops, and found sound sample chops. All these elements come together to create a comfy bed of nostalgic ambient texture and deep groove: something familiar yet new. Kurtz’s upcoming album, “Each Day,” reflects on and explores the microcosms of childhood memory and how they impact our interactions and experience of everyday life.
Minneapolis resident Nelson Ny-Devereaux is a saxophone and multi-wind instrument player who weaves old into new with exciting indie/instrumental pop sensibilities and dazzling technical ability on multiple instruments. Ny-Devereaux has toured and performed with acts including Bon Iver, Lizzo, Jungle, Paul Cherry, Mild High Club, Craig Finn, and The Hold Steady. His latest album, infinity, was released by the Brooklyn-based record label Youngbloods.
