Ruth Mascelli / Mary Hanson Scott with Starflower

$16 ADV / $18 DOS
7:30pm Show

Ruth Mascelli (NY) and saxophonist Mary Hanson Scott (Minneapolis) will perform selections of esoteric lounge music from their newly released EP "Self Control" (Disciples). Jazz trio Starflower will open the show with original compositions by percussionist Toby Ramaswamy, guitarist Ross Clowser, and saxophonist Anna Dolde. Live visuals by Shawna Lee.

Ruth Mascelli pairs slinking, synth-fuelled transcendence with crooning, existential balladry. Softening the edges of the industrial textures he provides as one quarter of the notorious synth punk band Special Interest, Mascelli’s solo performances present a carefully constructed sequence of torch songs and droning mood pieces infused throughout with a cosmic romanticism. Formerly based in New Orleans, he now lives and works in Kingston, NY.

Mary Hanson Scott is a Minneapolis-based musician known for building layers of ethereal saxophone into something almost synth-like. She has performed at Drone Not Drones in Minneapolis; International Noise Conference in Miami; Big Ears Festival in Knoxville (with Green Ribbon); and basements, plant stores, galleries, and churches across the country. Mary earned a Deep Listening Certificate from the Pauline Oliveros Deep Listening Institute in 2024.
