Take That Back feat. Joan Hutton & Sue Orfield

$15 at the door 7:30pm Show

Reed players and composers Joan Hutton and Sue Orfield will perform original jazz with their quintet, Take That Back. They’ll be playing selections from their July 2024 release, Splash, and their first album, Take That Back.

Band leaders and composers Joan Hutton (alto sax, bass clarinet) and Sue Orfield (tenor sax) began their collaboration in 2019, drawn together by their passion for original music. They joined forces with some of the Twin Cities’ most accomplished players—Ted Godbout on piano, Kameron Markworth on bass, and David Schmalenberger on drums—and together have released two albums on Shifting Paradigm Records: Take That Back (2022) and Splash (2024). With tight harmonies and precise arrangements, this quintet presents playful, original jazz that is sometimes unpredictable yet deeply rooted in melody.

“Different! Fun! Dynamic! …to experience a live performance of this band is to realize what an amazing chemistry that Orfield and Hutton have with each other and their band. Add in their inventive original compositions, and you’ve got a delightful evening of jazz.” – Dayna Martinez, Executive Director of the Twin Cities Jazz Festival
