The Cherry Pit Presents: Bible Study at Berlin (feat. iiisa)

$15 at the Door

7:00pm Open Jam

NYC-based vocalist & improviser-composer iiisa will open the evening with a set of fleeting melodies and soundscapes for solo voice and electronics. Then, The Cherry Pit house band will lead an open jam from approximately 8:30 to 11p.m. Admission will be $15 during the iiisa show and pay what you can—but free for musicians—during the jam.

iiisa is the budding solo project of NYC-based latinx vocalist and improviser-composer isabel crespo pardo. Their intimate songs emerge from warm sonic landscapes filled with familial chatter and field recordings from their home in Costa Rica. Taking great care, they transform opaque memories into powerful ephemera in hopes of offering solace. Their work has been presented by Roulette Intermedium, Big Ears Festival, and Pioneer Works.

The Cherry Pit presents an open jam for musicians and music lovers in the Twin Cities. It’s a social hub for Twin Cities creatives, a training ground to refine musicianship, and a vehicle for high-vibrational improvisation. This is not a free-form basement jam or strictly a jazz jam. Our goal is to find an equilibrium between freedom/fun and excellence. Even if you don’t play an instrument, stop by to experience the warmth and wonder of the show; you never know who might take the stage.

Why “𝔅𝔦𝔟𝔩𝔢 𝔖𝔱𝔲𝔡𝔶”? Are we studying holy scripture at the jazz club? … No! Bible Study takes place on Wednesday nights, just like Bible study at church. We are honing our skills and knowledge, gathering with spiritual intent, so we can shred on the weekends in service to a higher power! Whatever that means to you.

The house band for most Bible Studies is Tarek Abdelqader on drums, Henry Breen (Why Not) on bass, Marvelous on piano, and Jovon Williams (Room3) on saxophones.

We will have a house drum kit and a Steinway baby grand piano available for use. Bring your other instruments to the session!

This event is made possible by support from Blue Fox Foundation.
