NO COVER 4:30pm Show
Saxophonist Peter Goggin, bassist Sophia Kaufmann, and pianist Joe Strachan will perform jazz standards over two early evening sets. This will be Sophia’s first performance in Minnesota since moving to the Bay Area and her first time playing with Peter since his move to Indiana.
Peter Goggin is a saxophonist, educator, and composer from Minneapolis, MN. After earning his undergraduate degree in jazz studies from the University of Michigan in 2019, he returned to the Twin Cities to develop an active performing and teaching career. Beyond leading his own projects, he has had the pleasure of professionally sharing the stage with luminaries such as Arturo Sandoval, Jens Lindemann, Randy Brecker, Diane Schuur, and John Pizzarelli.
After five years in the Twin Cities, Sophia Kaufmann has recently relocated to her hometown of Oakland, CA, to continue her career as a musician, songwriter, and music educator. Kaufmann graduated from Macalester College in 2023 with degrees in music and sociology. She completed a sociology thesis on the Bay Area’s punk music community and received funding and accolades for her work. Kaufmann works to bring this passion for musical communities to her performances and teaching. She was a songwriter and bassist for the Twin Cities–based alternative rock band Bakermiller Pink. Kaufmann also plays with many jazz ensembles in Minnesota and California and enjoys performing jazz standards, contemporary jazz compositions, and free avant-garde improvisation.
With over a decade of performance experience, Joe Strachan has accompanied dance on the piano, performed on synths and electronics, and composed for a diverse range of collaborations in dance and theater. His recent work has included performing Terry Riley's “In C” with six musicians and 18 dancers, touring with Craig Finn and Mixed Blood Theatre, and performing locally with ThoughtCast, Ahndendet, Charanga Tropical, Little Boat, and Adam Zahllers’ Wheel Eternal. Joe’s work has been recognized with awards such as the Next Step Fund (2020).
