Producer Medium Zach typically takes over the last Monday of every month at Berlin, inviting a collaborator to improvise and play. In February, Zach will be performing on a Sunday instead of a Monday. His guest will be Kavyesh Kaviraj, pianist extraordinaire.
Medium Zach, aka Zach Bagaason, is a producer, artist, and studio engineer based in Minneapolis. He is half of the seminal hip-hop duo Big Quarters along with his brother, Brandon Bagaason. Zach’s production, recording, and engineering work has graced releases from artists such as Mankwe Ndosi, I Self Devine, 26 Bats!, and Lady Midnight. Zach has released two solo projects: Beatstory (2016) and Bad by Myself (2021).
Kavyesh Kaviraj is a critically acclaimed composer, arranger and pianist living and working in Minnesota. The Twin Cities-based musician has worked with several internationally renowned artists, including Wynton Marsalis, David Sanchez, Justin Robinson, Roosevelt Collier, and Steve Cole. Kavyesh graduated from Columbia College Chicago in 2018, with a Bachelor of Music in jazz studies and contemporary music. In 2019, Kavyesh received a full tuition grant to pursue a master’s degree at Berklee College’s Global Jazz Institute, where he was under the eminent tutelage of jazz masters including Danilo Pérez, Kenny Werner, and JoAnne Brackeen. He graduated in 2020 with a Master of Music degree in contemporary performance.
