Roméo Poirier & Holly Hansen

$16 7:30pm Show

Brussels-based musician, photographer, and lifeguard Roméo Poirier will bring his sleek, subaqueous electroacoustic music to Minneapolis for the very first time. To open the show, Twin Cities-based musician Holly Hansen will perform a rare live experimental electronic work. The palette will be old family cassette tapes, found sound, and homemade beats made with unconventional samples.

Roméo Poirier is working in the field of electronic music, focusing on the heavy processing of samples and digital collage. He has released albums on the London-based record label Kit Records (Plage Arrière), the mancunian record label Sferic (Hotel Nota), and Jan Jelinek’s own imprint Faitiche (Living Room), transforming the layering of different times into a free-flowing pulse that sounds both nostalgic and mysteriously ahistorical. For his first United States/Canada tour, he will preview new sample- and research-based material from the hidden realm of historical studio engineering.

“This is ambient music that builds a new space for you to contemplate rather than soundtracking the physical space around you.” (Resident Advisor)

“Smart for sure, but this is also very much human-touched electronica—glitch at its best! Solid gold home listening experience for the home listening generation.” (World of Echo)

Holly Hansen is an acclaimed musician, producer, and audio engineer, as well as the artist behind the band Zoo Animal and electronic project Body Dork. She was named City Pages Artist of the Year (2011) and Best Live Artist (2012), and she was the feature of a 30-minute PBS documentary called Holly Hansen: My Way Back Home. She is the recipient of a MN Emerging Composer Award from the American Composers Forum (2017) and was named one of “9 Queer Musicians to Watch in 2020” by Twin Cities Pride Magazine.
