Slothing is a trio that aims to push and stretch the music they play. They are inspired by many bands and musicians past and present, including Paul Motian Trio, Wayne Shorter, Charles Owens Trio, and Fela Kuti. The trio consists of Alex Meffert on saxophone, Ben Ehrlich on drums, and Will DeBlaey on bass.
Alex Meffert has been an active musician in the Twin Cities since graduating from the University of Wisconsin–Eau Claire in 2020. He keeps his schedule full by playing many styles of music, including salsa, blues, R&B, and jazz. Alex’s passion is to share his love for music with others, and he hopes that the music brings some good to the world.
Will DeBlaey is a musician recently transplanted from Eau Claire, WI, to the Twin Cities. He is a nationally touring bassist and producer who has worked with Grace Kelly, Natalie Cressman, Roxy Coss, Gina Miles, Tae and the Neighborly, Waldemar, and Madilyn Bailey. Will often finds himself in limbo between genres and finds meaning in that variety. He brings his love of music making to the stage every chance he gets.
Ben Ehrlich is a drummer, educator, and composer based in Minneapolis, MN. After studying with Ed Soph and graduating from the University of North Texas in 2018, Ben moved back to his home state and quickly became one of the top call drummers in the Twin Cities jazz scene. Recognized for his versatility, Ben has had the pleasure of sharing the stage with Randy Brecker, Kurt Elling, Diane Schuur, Jens Lindemann, Davina and the Vagabonds, Javier Santiago, the JazzMN Orchestra, Leslie Vincent, and many others, including rock, blues and indie artists from around the country.
