Cinematic, moody Russian-language band StoLyette hosts Sunday nights at Berlin in April. The first evening of their residency will feature a performance by the original duo configuration of StoLyette: Ben Clark and Irene Ruderman Clark. Then, Pornonono, an R&B future-myth, will return to the stage for the first time in more than five years. Drew Christopherson (Poliça) will perform a DJ set to close out the night.
StoLyette (Duo) is Ben Clark and Irene Ruderman Clark. StoLyette features a pitch-shifting, repeating, layered bass and Russian-language vocals. These dynamic soundscapes mixed with an expressive vocal approach presented mostly in Russian provide the listener room to interpret and reconstruct the meaning of each composition to reflect more personally the listener's own experience and state. As longtime members of the Twin Cities music scene, StoLyette have released five albums: Lubymaya (2014), Mitch (2015), Summer (2017), Mach (2019), and Ghost Fox 2020 (2025).
A psychedelic R&B future myth in the making, Pornonono is defined and realized by the searing pop production of Aaron Baum (Braingiver, Tickle Torture), solidified by Jacob Mullis (Fort Wilson Riot, Solid Gold) and Amy Hager’s (Fort Wilson Riot) infectious pop vocal hooks, anchored by the rhythm section of Jared Isabella (Night Moves, Suzie) and Ben Clark (StoLyette) and smoothed out by saxophonist Peter LaVoie. The group’s debut EP, Yes, crystallizes the desires to move and mate, to get down and shake it up, to nod your head and wear down the soles of your shoes till we’ve danced ourselves into a single conjoined being, unified in body and soul.
Drew Christopherson is a drummer (POLIÇA, Marijuana Deathsquads), woodworker, and curator via his lifer project Totally Gross National Product. Having spent decades collecting records, he has explored a wide range of genres, from punk and hardcore to spiritual jazz and techno. In this setting, Drew will likely focus on psychedelic electronic music and far-out instrumentals. He believes strongly in the ritual of collective listening and encourages attendees to bring their friends to a radical new place for music listening and appreciation in Minneapolis.
