Cinematic, moody Russian-language band StoLyette hosts Sunday nights at Berlin in April. The second evening of their residency will feature StoLyette as a trio and sans le systeme, the improvised performance project led by JG Everest.
StoLyette (Trio) is Ben Clark, Mitch Miller, and Irene Ruderman Clark. StoLyette features a pitch-shifting, repeating, layered bass and Russian-language vocals. These dynamic soundscapes mixed with an expressive vocal approach presented mostly in Russian provide the listener room to interpret and reconstruct the meaning of each composition to reflect more personally the listener's own experience and state. As longtime members of the Twin Cities music scene, StoLyette have released five albums: Lubymaya (2014), Mitch (2015), Summer (2017), Mach (2019), and Ghost Fox 2020 (2025).
Formed in 2001, sans le systeme is an experimental music/improvised performance project led by composer/musician JG Everest (Lateduster, BLACKFISH, Gold Minefield) with a rotating cast of stellar collaborators from across the Minneapolis music scene. This group is known for its legendary iNMiGRATiON residencies at Icehouse. Every performance is unique and draws from an infinite variety of styles, including jazz, electronic, drone, hip-hop, Afrobeat, and ambient musics. For the intimate room at Berlin, the ensemble will be pared down to Cory Healey (drums), Truth Maze (percussion), Ben Clark (bass), JG Everest (affected guitars), and Matty Harris (winds), with special guest cameos.
