Sought after for his command of the guitar, his unique sound, and his soulful approach, Park Evans—a native of Ithaca, New York—had a long lasting musical tenure in Minneapolis. He performed with multiple groups in the Midwest, including bassist Chris Morrisey’s quartet (Norah Jones, Mark Giuliani), Corey Palmer & Love Trade, New Primitives, as well as collaborating with cello duo Michelle Kinney & Jacqueline Ultan, guitarist Mike Michel, and legendary bassist Anthony Cox (Stan Getz, John Scofield). He now calls Seattle home and performs around the United States and Canada with vintage swing/R&B outfit Birch Pereira & the Gin Joints. Known for his cinematic and poignant compositions, he has released five albums of original music and has worked as a studio musician on numerous sessions.
On his latest album, Park is joined by four of the Midwest’s finest masters of the jazz craft. On tenor saxophone, there is Brandon Wozniak of Minneapolis,Minnesota. Wozniak, one of the most sought after saxophonists from the Midwest, is noted for his doleful tone and subtle, melodic approach. He is featured in Dave King Trucking Company and Acoustic Deathwish, where he contributes a rock-steady feel and rare sensitivity. Also joining Evans’ group is Jake Baldwin, an exciting trumpet player who has the virtuosic technique of Woody Shaw and the harmonic sense of a seasoned piano player. He also hails from Minneapolis, and is one of the top call musicians for a variety of genres—from jazz groups to the Minnesota Orchestra to pop and rock groups. Jake has recorded for a multitude of artists, including Cory Wong, Nathy Peluso, the television show Archer, the video game Assassin’s Creed, and the television show Jupiter’s Legacy. Ted Olsen is a double bassist from Minneapolis, MN, with extensive experience as both a performer and composer. He has been fortunate enough to share the stage with many stellar musicians, including Michael Cain, Dayna Stephens, Javier Santiago, John Raymond, Tim Sparks, Dean Magraw, Aby Wolf, Eric Mayson, and Steve Kenny. Lastly, Greg Schutte, who has more than 25 years of contributions to music under his belt, joins Evans’ group on drums. Schutte has performed with the likes of Zakir Hussain, Giovanni Hidalgo, Wayne Horvitz, Empire Brass Quintet, Bakiti Kumalo, and Anthony Cox and is sought after for his refined palette, virtuosity, and remarkable acuity. He is also a man who can don many hats: he currently tours with Grammy Award winner Ryan Bingham, and he produces, mixes, engineers, and composes music. Park Evans has brought together a world-class roster of musicians, and the result is a fantastic collection of jazz sure to delight listeners of all stripes.
